Pantents on video game mechanics... oh how I wish this weren't true. I would love a first person adventure game with the best mechanics and controls taken from genres that did that mechanics very well. The one that always comes to mind for me is the boxing controls from Fight Night games. It pains me a little every time I play a game where pugilistic battles come down to smash 1 or 2 buttons.
