Apple ordered to open encrypted user accounts globally to UK spying
- weinzierl 2y agoSince the headline is a bit ambiguous (maybe only bc English is not my first language): It is Apple has been ordered to open encrypted user accounts but it still has to be seen what they'll do and not Apple ordered their whatever department to open encrypted user accounts.
- TrueGeek 2y agoAs a native English speaker I didn’t find it ambiguous. I don’t know why though. I think your confusion is because “ordered” could mean they were ordered to do something, but it could also be the past tense of them ordering someone else. However, “ordered to” would not work in the past tense so this headline must be referring to them being ordered.
