The term 'Deep State' often refers to a group of individuals within the government who operate without transparency or accountability, as appears to be the case with DOGE. It's crucial for these fears to be addressed openly and transparently to maintain public trust. Their disregard for the public and contempt for the law have led some people to call this a coup.
- jfengel 2y agoI'm reluctant to call it a "coup" until it starts interfering with elections. If the voters change their minds in two years, and they accept that, then it's not a coup, merely an incredibly bad idea. But it could well be a coup in the making, and if elections are interfered with, future historians will definitely back-date the coup to this point.
- taylodl 2y agoInterfering with the operations of government as specified in the Constitution in order to grant more power to the executive branch in which they reside isn't an adequate definition for you? Let's review what's happened in the past 3 weeks: - Defied Congressional funding. Congress has the power to authorize spending, yet the executive branch is not funding the resources Congress has authorized, a practice known as impoundment, which has already been established as being illegal. - Defied Congressional oversight. The executive branch has attempted to create new departments and appoint leaders without Congressional approval, which is beyond their Constitutional authority. - Threatening to defy judicial restraint. Judges have ordered the executive branch to stop certain activities, but officials have indicated they have no intention of complying and have openly mocked the judiciary. They have zero respect for the Constitution, zero respect for the law, and they're now running our government. It's not unreasonable to call this a "coup."
