Has anyone ever actually gotten a pay raise with a promotion? Or does that only happen in movies and fiction? I feel like promotions are either a perverse tool for voluntary headcount reduction or a tool that shifts a perceived “problem” (lack of raises/advancement for the employee) to a different manager. Also a short term retention tool since the promoted blindly thinks they’re going to get paid more for the higher responsibilities!
