If this were happening in another country, outfits like CNN would be writing things like "Regime purges security forces it deems disloyal" https://www.doomsda

- croes 2y agoCNN is a tough position because it’s in the country of the purge
- AnotherGoodName 2y agoYep similar to reddit going on a banning spree of subs critical of Musk right now. Speak up and you go out of business. Everyone’s in a heads down situation hoping they aren’t noticed.
- RoyTyrell 2y agoPlease do correct me if I'm wrong, but the only subreddit I heard was banned was WhitePeopleTwitter, and that was because there were comments doxxing and implying or directly calling for violence against the Tesla/SpaceX engineers Musk is using to "audit" the OPM, and the mods were doing little to nothing to stop it.
- AnotherGoodName 2y agoNo a few transgender subs as well. There’s also a massive ban wave of any sub reddit says is unmoderated which they claim to be unrelated but timing… https://www.reddit.com/r/BannedSubs/ https://www.reddit.com/r/BannedSubs/
- taylodl 2y agoThat's how the Nazis took over Germany. Everybody kept their heads down.
- apothegm 2y agoThe question remains of what one could do at this point that would have any impact.
- archagon 2y ago> There's a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious — makes you so sick at heart — that you can't take part. You can't even passively take part. And you've got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you've got to make it stop. And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.
- mystified5016 2y agoUnfortunately we've spent the better part of a century brainwashing a majority of our population to believe that this is "communism" and thus inherently evil in all regards, no matter what. I'm honestly not sure if things can get bad enough for a general American revolt. I think we've pushed that threshold so far back that the people won't do anything until the country is well past the tipping point of total collapse. I'm happy to be wrong, but living in America, you develop a very low opinion of Americans.

- red-iron-pine 2y agothe US has more civilians with guns than any other country, by a wide margin, and was founded in a violent revolution. Musk and Co. are betting on people to stay home and not get involved, and if they do, that they'll be peaceful protests that can be ignored. because they will ignore them, basically. shit, even the Jan 6th coup protesters killed a cop and assaulted others.
- davidw 2y agoThe press trying to coddle authoritarians is the way you get the next purge and the purge after that.
- ctrlp 2y agoRegimes do not purge security forces deemed disloyal at their peril.

- belter 2y agoPaul Graham - 10:51 AM · Oct 29, 2024 *Why Moderates Should Vote for Harris* " People on the far left and the far right have already decided who to vote for in the next election. Voting for the other party would be unthinkable. But what if you’re a moderate? I’m a moderate, and I’m voting for Harris. The reason is not that I love the Democrats’ policies. Both parties’ policies seem a roughly equal mix of good and bad. The reason I’m voting for Harris is that this election is about character. As far as I can tell, Harris is a typical politician. That may not seem much of a recommendation. But Trump is something far worse. He seems to be completely without shame. We saw that the last time he was president. He ran the White House like a mob boss, choosing subordinates for loyalty rather than ability. No one knows that better than the people who worked for him. Almost half the cabinet-level appointees from his previous administration have refused to endorse him. They’re warning us what he’s like. The worst thing he did, in my opinion, was when he tried to remain in power after he lost the 2020 election. He knew he’d lost, but he called Mike Pence and tried to get him not to certify the election. Thank God Pence had the character to stand up to him. I don’t like to think what might have happened if he hadn’t. Trying to remain in power after losing an election is banana republic stuff. You don’t do that in America. Conceding gracefully when you lose an election is more important than any policy a politician might have, because it’s only this principle that allows us to get rid of politicians whose policies don’t work. So sure, Harris is a typical politician. But Trump is a crook. You can’t have that sort of person as president. It’s too risky."
- tim333 2y agoIt's a bit early to write that when they haven't purged any yet. Also that article is a bit silly with "Musk’s junta have established him as the all-but undisputed unelected head of government". There's an orange looking guy who would dispute that biggly.
