Better and more peer-reviewed research means more areas to raise economically viable ideas in and so the gravitational pull would get stronger in coming generations. And those chain-guys talk a lot about trust, verification, decentralization, (proof of work) and so on ... It's a "boring niche" that needs some ruckus, if you ask me.
