Key point - Becoming AI Whisperers:
1. The 70/30 Rule: Let AI handle boilerplate; reserve 30% of every task for human ingenuity.
2. AI Code Autopsies: When using generated code, reverse-engineer it line by line. Make it teach you.
3. Revive the Artisan Guilds: Mentor juniors in fundamentals first — algorithms, memory management, logic. AI comes later.
- lemonberry 2y agoCan you recommend any algorithm resources for a hobbyist programmer?
- dapperdrake 2y agoFocus on your data structures a.k.a. data tables. Those depend on your problem domain (the thing you are poking at with software). Then and only then, you may want to look at what is too slow on your particular CPU and OS. All the rest has been noise since before LLMs. This includes "algorithms" a.k.a. flow charts. Fred Brooks boiled it down to its essentials. And that never changed.
- lemonberry 2y agoI've never heard of Fred Brooks. Sounds like he's where I should start. Thank you for the response.
- dapperdrake 2y agoNot everybody was "purposefully" drowning themselves in boilerplate code in the first place.
