If ADHD is genetic, which I believe it is, then the odds are the parents have their own problems as well - and these problems can manifest in a wide variety of dysfunctions. My parents are awful people but having lived through ADHD and chronic fatigue I no longer blame them for who they are. Knowing that they would have been going through something similar when they were my age I understand how tough it must have been for them. The internet is what saved me from becoming a full time asshole, without the internet my parents just had gaslighting from doctors. The amount of pain and suffering that you don’t know isn’t normal because everyone is telling you it is, is enough to make anyone an asshole no matter how much they fight it, it’s not a choice.
