Ask HN: Which US cities are most amenable to banning smoking outside your home?

• hollerith 2y ago
Smoking is already banned outdoors in some places, e.g., >All local Marin [County in California] jurisdictions restrict smoking in many outdoor areas. It is not legal to smoke or vape tobacco, nicotine, medical or nonmedical marijuana in Marin's outdoor cafes, bars, shopping centers, bus stops, workplaces including construction sites and other outdoor areas where non-smokers can be impacted. https://www.smokefreemarin.org/outdoor-smoking-restrictions/#:~:text=All%20local%20Marin%20jurisdiction%20restrict,non%2Dsmokers%20can%20be%20impacted. https://www.smokefreemarin.org/outdoor-smoking-restrictions/...

I mean it would be banned everywhere outside people's homes so that you would never smell someone's smoke unless you have a smoker in your home.

Might just be easier to move somewhere with a low prevalence of smoking in the general population? I don't see hardly anyone smoking anymore.

So renters who smoke can just go pound sand?

Or maybe just not smoke. That might be an option, too.
