Recently I began rewatching episodes of Max Headroom. That shit was like Black Mirror for an 80s audience. My favorite episode concerns a mindlessly insipid gameshow, "Whacketts", that has interlaced with it a hidden signal that looks like rapidly changing hexadecimal numbers, and gets people addicted to the show like a drug. Sounds far-fetched, right? Except we live in the era of Cocomelon and Skibidi Toilet.
