I used to work in insurance but, I am not a lawyer but, not sure why this is getting so many points when the driver admits they were at fault and AppleCare denied the claim. Looking at the reddit thread the person who had this accident even states that folded laptops aren't covered either...
In insurance you want to read the policy before you buy as a general rule.

- xattt 2y agoThe poster is located in the Netherlands, which may have entirely different AppleCare+ T&C versus the States. The quoted contract indicates “handling” as a qualifier for the cause of accidental damage. I can’t quite tell, but I assume that it means coverage would only apply if you were holding it and dropped it (i.e. not if it was stored/stowed). Not a lawyer either, but I did watch Better Call Saul.

While one obviously shouldn’t learn the law from a fictional TV show, Better Call Saul does take good attention to detail to get things right. You might enjoy this episode review by the Leagle Eagle. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCZ06Sfr9Cg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCZ06Sfr9Cg Spoiler: he gave the episode an A- for legal realism.
- eloisant 2y agoBut I thought the whole point of AppleCare was to cover accidental damage that you're responsible for? For example you spill your coffee over your mac, you're clearly at fault and responsible for it but that's in their examples of covered damages.
- zitterbewegung 2y agoReading the reddit thread is a better source of information. From the original source: It has been taken and sent to the Netherlands for evaluation (I’m in Europe) but the immediately pointed me to a a paragraph in the Apple Cover + terms where they state: folded and crushed devices are not covered This is not advertised at all of course, but it’s there
