- sksrbWgbfK 2y ago> France is furious "Art historians and architects." A few people then, maybe they should ask the Christians instead, it's their cathedral after all. > [Pascal Convert said] Mitterrand was a man of culture I don't think we should listen to what they say, ever. Mitterrand was a hundred times more controversial than Macron will ever be.
- Arnt 2y agoI should day it's something that belongs to Parisians as much as to Christians. Parisians may not spend much time listening to sermons, but they care about the building, it's one of the key buildings of the city, and paid for its reconstruction.
- jfengel 2y ago"changing them out would destroy the harmony of the cathedral’s design" The cathedral's design doesn't have any harmony. It was built over centuries, in different styles. None of the stained glass is ancient; it was all destroyed in the Revolution. They were replaced in the 19th century, along with most of the grotesques. The Parisians have a long tradition of hating new things and then coming to embrace them. But this doesn't sound like that. Reading between the lines, this has little to do with either art or architecture, and more with politics, and character assassination. It would be good to have the traditional row about old versus new. Too bad this isn't it.
