POTUS Tracker – Executive Orders, Presidential Schedule, Signed Legislation
- hipadev23 2y agoaannnd it's gone
- RangerScience 2y agoIt’s back?
- hypeatei 2y agoHow long before the "why do I have to see politics" crowd is here?
- SirFatty 2y agoA valid question, no?
- nozzlegear 2y agoNo, tech and politics are inextricably linked in this modern age. We might wistfully wish for the days when this wasn't the case, but this is our current reality.
- uoaei 2y agoAssuming in good faith that this is the first time you are exposed to this conversation (though my intuition strongly suggests it is not): Anything that can be used to exercise power over another person is political, including (and increasingly so as our society progresses) technology.
- themikesanto 2y agoLooks like the answer was 18 minutes.
- 6510 2y agoSee, it was a technology topic after all.
- thejazzman 2y agoi understand you and many others might not feel it, but it can have a very severe emotional impact on someone. it's especially undesirable when you're taking a break and browsing something you find joy in, like hackernews. i've abandoned a lot of websites just to avoid being reminded/thinking about this reality. and yes, i know that my behavior is going to be a growing problem that enables the problems. it sucks. but no one else is gonna protect my mental health. therefore........ i dislike politics on HN.
- pixxel 2y agoYour weak mindedness shouldn’t affect what others learn/read. Go for walk, get a hobby offline etc.
- thejazzman 2y agoyou're attacking me when all i did was articulate why someone might not enjoy the content. post all the trash on social media you want, won't bother me one way or another other than that i wouldn't engage with you.
- hypeatei 2y agoThat's fair. I'm very used to bad faith users who participate in a lot of political threads but only post "why politics" in threads that make them uncomfortable. Thanks for your perspective.
- 6510 2y agoUse the hide topic not the reply button. There is a joke inthere about political affiliation but you didn't give me enough to work with.
- MrGinkgo 2y agoOn the one hand, I'm with you. I went from being incredibly uninformed about most current events to being incredibly anxious about EVERYTHING due to HN. I've since stepped away (in fact, this is my first time back in weeks, maybe, and I approached the feed very cautiously.) But, on the other hand, I come to HN for its intelligence. Compared to other similar sites, I've scarcely found another userbase that's as consistently sincere, nuanced, and intelligent as the users on here. So, while I agree that politics and related topics can be remarkably anxiety inducing at times, I value HN because I can see what I believe to be the best Laymen's thoughts on it, on a website which isn't nearly as profit-driven and exploitative as the alternatives.
- xtiansimon 2y agoMeh. I don’t have to look at photos of agent Orange when browsing HN. I can skip those posts the same as most AI articles. I noticed my YouTube feed on desktop keeps political videos in a single band, just “below the fold”. I can handle that. I blink, and move on. I trust about an hour of NPR radio to let me know if the sky is falling, and that lets my mind skip over content that leaks elsewhere.
- pavel_lishin 2y ago> POTUS Tracker experienced significant downtime on 1/28 due to an overloaded server. Thanks to your generous donations, the server has been upgraded to better handle the demand.
- SmellTheGlove 2y agoYeah not working for me right now.
- stetrain 2y agoSeems to be missing the "golfing" status.
- greyface- 2y agoFor executive orders specifically, there's an official RSS feed on whitehouse.gov: https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/feed/ https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/feed/

- rvz 2y agoGreat for more transparency. Would have been better to see this with the previous administration to see what Biden really did during his time in office, or if he even did do anything significantly beneficial to the US other than funding more wars.
- SmellTheGlove 2y agoIt’s time to stop blaming Biden. Your guy is in office now. Whatever happens it’s on him, not Biden. Let’s stop with that.
- krunck 2y agoSome of us distrust both parties.
- SmellTheGlove 2y agoRead the post I’m responding to. Look carefully at the wording. That individual is suggesting something else. Here’s an idea: if this was so sorely needed under Biden then they could have written one themselves just like OP did!
- TaurenHunter 2y agoNo, it is not. Instead of allowing the one-time Covid emergency spending to expire, your guy kept spending at that level. It will take time and effort to undo all that damage.
- saturn8601 2y agoThis sounds like an entry in the garbage can of excuses your side will use once he fails to implement the improvements that his voters were promised. Biden only had 4 years and a very strong opposition, with Trump he has a more "efficient" government full of yes men, having all three branches of government, plus the popular vote, there is no excuse anymore.
- dmonitor 2y agoThe common theme in all of these EOs seems to be concentrating power to the executive branch, and scapegoating wokeness/dei so that people can celebrate/panic over culture warring nonsense. Trump is also floating the idea of booting criminals who are citizens out of the country. I don't want to panic, but we're only a week in, and trajectory of all this is very terrifying to me. I'm not sure what, if anything, I can do on an individual level.
- scrollaway 2y agoYou can leave. I encourage Americans to look at alternatives. My country (Belgium) as well as most of Europe will welcome you and many other highly skilled migrants for in-demand jobs such as programming and other tech adjacent jobs. Cost of life here is lower and life is nice. You get your pick of a country; many are different and give you access to different cultures across the EU. Of course don’t get me wrong, things are veering far-right here as well, but it’s nothing compared to the US and you’ll be shocked how much nicer life is when you can walk to get groceries instead of having to bring your pickup truck. In a few years, when things have calmed down (they eventually will), you can go back and help fix whatever mess the US has been left in. And as usual if you do want to take up the opportunity of moving to Europe and you’re serious about it, feel free to email me (see profile), I will do what I can to guide and advise you.
- cudgy 2y agoCan you walk and find groceries in all areas of Belgium? I live in the US and I can walk to two large grocery stores, but I know there are large swathes of the US that you cannot do that. Is that any different than Belgium? Belgium has significant opportunities for software developers? Interesting. I thought many were struggling for these jobs. By the way, in the United States, most of the backlash against immigrants is against low skill, immigrants sneaking across the border. I find it interesting that you mention that you are welcoming of people that you need, yet you imply that those that don’t want unneeded laborers are right wing. You just made the same error. So you’re right wing too, right?

- not_your_mentat 2y agoWhy is this flagged?
- lenova 2y agoAgreed, this shouldn't be flagged. The creator is a young data journalist that posted the announcement of this project of his on /r/selfhosted last week. This is ShowHN quality work that is just reporting data, not clickbait.
- krapp 2y agoHacker News' autoimmune response has been triggered by recent events, so one can expect anything even remotely related to politics to be flagged for the forseeable future.
