Show HN: I made an AI language tutor that teaches through immersive video calls
Hi! I created a platform that lets you have real video call lessons with an AI teacher that's available 24/7.
What do you think?
What should I improve?
www.kylian.ai
What we offer:
- Full video conferencing: see and speak with your AI tutor in a natural setting
- Structured lessons with clear objectives and progression
- Interactive whiteboard for visual explanations
- Real-time translations and grammar feedback
- Cultural insights integrated into conversations
- Progress tracking to monitor your improvement
- Practice exercises and scenarios
- Customizable lesson content
What makes us different:
- Video call format feels more like a real classroom/tutoring session
- Complete lesson structure (not just conversation practice)
- Visual teaching tools (whiteboard, lesson overlays)
- Track your learning journey
- Practice real-world scenarios
What we're working on:
- More interactive scenario types
- Additional cultural content
- Expanded lesson library
- More customization options
- Enhanced progress analytics
- Call recording
I've been developing this to make language learning more engaging and structured than just chat interfaces.
Would love your feedback, please!
Thanks!
Ernest
- ErnestBogore 2y agoPlease, do not hesitate to let me know what you think. Happy to incorporate your feedback to make the app better.
- NKosmatos 2y agoLooks interesting. A few friendly notes, if I may… Almost all links from your page don’t work :-( I can’t read the launch article, support, terms, privacy all lead to a 404. What are credits and how are they used? Nice of you to have a free tier, but what does it mean in sense of lessons? In the video it explains that 1 credit = 1 lesson.
- ErnestBogore 2y agoThank you for the feedback. True, all the links do not work because I just haven't created the content yet. Listened to the typical YC advice of launching without being fancy. Yes, you're right, 1 credit = 1 lesson. And a lesson's duration depends on how you interact with the tutor.
- ErnestBogore 2y agoUpdate: I redirected the pages to the Homepage in the meantime. Thank you for drawing my attention to this.
- aditya_ramteke 2y agoThis seems pretty interesting! "Someone" to talk to is a really great way to keep users engaged. However when I tried learning French (and I'm an absolute beginner), it didn't explain me starting with the basics of French. It just started with some french sentences I couldn't follow. And when I asked it to explain simple words one by one, it just couldn't! But really appreciate the work you have done. And all the best!
- ErnestBogore 2y agohi Aditya - thank you for the feedback. What language did you set as your native language? Did it at least generate a lesson plan for the topic you input? Also, if it generated the lesson, it means that it did not start from the very basic of that topic. It seems like you'd prefer it to have more pedagogy and start from the basics. Is that correct? Thank you so much for the feedback. I will try to improve the app based on this.
- aditya_ramteke 2y agoI chose native language as English and it did create a lesson plan. Yes, it did create a lesson plan but it didn't explain the basics. It just told me to repeat sentences after it and I couldn't follow because I barely know any words. Also, I'd love to be an early user for your product and join your beta group (if that exists...) to gove you constant feedback.
- ErnestBogore 2y agoWould love to. Will send you an email. Thank you so much.
