I play a lot of this game called Dota 2. People don’t really approach it like they do chess but I find a lot of parallels - many of these I imagine were intentionally designed into the game. Concepts such as fragility betweenness centrality introduced in this article really resonate with how the game can be played optimally.
Currently I’ve been playing as a hero called Spectre which has the ability to globally teleport onto any hostile unit. This allows the “piece” to be on the shortest path any visible node. Moreover, a key move is bursting “fragile” supports obtain a man advantage to snowball fights. Not always the optimal move since Dota is a very complex game but it’s cool to see the parallels and I wish more people approached the game from a chess perspective.
