Show HN: I made a tool that generates your Chinese name based on your name
Hacked it together over the weekend. It can tell you the meaning of each character, how to write it and how to pronounce it!
- bobbiechen 2y agoNeat. Reminds me of https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/03/21/beau-jessup-teen-pays-college-fees-by-naming-chinese-babies.html https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2019/03/21/beau-jessup-teen-pays-co... in the opposite direction.
- humptybumpty 2y agoAudio doesn’t work on Ios. Gave me two different responses when I tried different browsers. Too bad only one of the character cards explain pronounciation.
- zshaoz 2y agoLemme check that out. Are you using Safari on iOS? The responses are supposed to be randomly generated, it's powered by AI behind the scenes.
- JHonaker 2y agoVery neat, but audio doesn't work on desktop either. (Linux, Firefox) I had an old-school generated voice say "Chinese letter Chinese letter Chinese letter." It was definitely amusing, but I don't think that's what you were going for.
- zshaoz 2y agoOh, ok lemme check that out! thanks for highlighting!
- nazeern 2y agoThis is awesome! Just a heads up, I didn't get any pronunciation on web.
- zshaoz 2y agoCan I check what browser and OS are you using?
- albertauyeung 2y agoVery nice! I see the pronunciation is in Cantonese but it gives the mandarin pinyin. Do you want to make it consistent?
- zshaoz 2y agoOh, maybe because the audio function will speak the chinese words according to your local settings. I should fix it, thanks for highlighting!
