To pass a constitutional amendment in the United States, it must be approved by Congress and then ratified by the states.
Interesting, but three-fourths of state legislatures must approve the amendment. Does he have that level of approval in three-fourths of the states?
- gbin 2y agoNo. It is called "flooding the zone" as a strategy. This is just a distraction so we all talk about that, or the birth rights that would also need a change in the constitution, or the Gulf of Mexico etc ... The media and the public doesn't have the bandwidth to hash all that out so other outrageous but less outrageous stuff can be passed with everybody numb to the outcries.
- overu589 2y agoSo far so good. One after another in rapid succession, the news barely has the time to report it once, let alone the weeks long languor that passes for the nation’s attention span.
- ahazred8ta 2y agoIt's a low-effort feelgood exercise. It only takes one congressman to introduce a proposed amendment. There are dozens of frivolous proposed amendments every year that go nowhere. Stallone joked about the Schwarzenegger Amendment and the Humperdinck administration in Demolition Man (1993) and the actual Arnold Amendment was introduced in 2003 (it died without ever being voted on). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Opportunity_to_Govern_Amendment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal_Opportunity_to_Govern_Am...
- kjs3 2y agoExactly. Expect Rep. Ogles to beat the fact he "supported Trump" like a drum whenever he's pandering to his constituents. Anyone who points out the obvious "that'll never fly" will be ruthlessly excoriated as "anti-Trump" and "the enemy" (or some such euphemism). Thanks for the Demolition Man reference; that's perfect and I'd forgotten about it.
