Tesla closes loophole that let Kia owners charge on Superchargers
- dlcarrier 2y agoHow did Hyundai labeled cars get access, without granting KИ cars access? They're the same company.
- zfg 2y agoThe Vehicle Identification Number includes a manufacturer section: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number Kia was supposed to have access in North America by now so Tesla must have enabled it according to the original timelines and not the revised timelines. The restrictions are artificial. Kias have been able to use Tesla chargers in Europe for years. It works because it's all CCS. NACS is CCS with the J3400 plug.
- cpburns2009 2y agoI had no idea all of these KИ cars were Kia until recently. I thought it was a new brand. My eyes can only see a backwards "N" not "IA".
- dlcarrier 2y agoThe best part is that in Cyrillic languages, the backwards an makes an 'ee' sound, so 'KИ' is pronounced like 'key', pretty close to 'Kia'. I really hope someone make a stick-on badge, in the same style as the 'KИ' logo, of a 'Я', which is pronounced 'ya'. If added to the 'KИ' logo to make 'KИЯ', it would be 'Kia' in Cyrillic.
- filoleg 2y agoYeah, noticed it as well lol. Either КИЯ or КИА could work (the latter probably would work even better). Interestingly enough, I was trying to figure out which of the two cyrillic transliteration was the “officially” accepted one, so I went to their russian wikipedia page[0]. To my surprise, I wasn’t able to find the answer, as all mentions of the company/brand name on that page were in english only. 0. https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Motors https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kia_Motors
- dlcarrier 2y agoThe pronunciation of 'Kia' itself varies depending on what region, and I don't live in the deep south, but I'm sticking with 'КИЯ' anyway, because it looks more Cyrillic.
- nwellinghoff 2y agoMaybe some EE will step up and make a dongle that converts kia to a fake tesla plug :) “How is the same id number charging at 100 places at the same time?!”
- zfg 2y agoThe simpler thing will be for Tesla to stop blocking cars from charging. Closed infrastructure makes EVs worse than ICE vehicles. I can fuel my ICE vehicle at any fuel station, I should be able to charge my EV at any charging station. Tesla chargers have been open to all EVs in Europe for years now, including Kias: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yflZN0dLT8s https://www.youtube.com/shorts/yflZN0dLT8s All Electrify America stations charge all EVs, including Teslas. Tesla can lift its game in North America.
