To some extent, it is true that academic environments tend to lean heavily left, but it's debatable whether that's "ideological capture" or just truth tending to agree with left-aligned ideology more.
To me, the most concerning fact is that science itself has become politicised, and as a consequence science denialism is gaining more and more traction. To me, that seems like a potential tragedy for our entire civilization. Even more so if it leads to magnifying the biases in science as it becomes a part of the battlefield of politics. This is really bad.
More personally, as an LGBT person, it's concerning to me that the science they take the most issue with is just stuff like "gender dysphoria is real and trans people deserve compassion", "sex brain differences are statistical, not qualitative, and maybe we shouldn't force people into strict gender roles", or even just "yeah, misogyny is real" and "there's nothing wrong with gay people".
- devwastaken 2y agolate stage academia is directly responsible for degradation in scientific research and responsible for why people don't believe it. repeal student loans, repeal university funding across the board. only way to fix the tax funded grift is to force them to operate in the market. if it doesn't survive it didn't deserve to. the people that want the “imperfect system” to continue are responsible for why people don't believe it.
