Amazon may have done so as a gesture to avoid antitrust scrutiny from the new administration, but I know from friends there that they are still subject to a lot of pressure to meet DEI targets behind closed doors. Executives are given target numbers based on race and gender for hiring and promotion that determine their own performance. It’s illegal but that’s why they do all this only verbally, to avoid litigation.
