One of the things I hate worst about teaching is the Prometheus boards (big flat-panel touch screens) have been mounted in every classroom right over the chalkboard.
The central problem with them is that teachers do not use them in any way which is materially different than they used to use chalkboards. But they are less than 1/5th the size of a schoolroom chalkboard. The students "window" into knowledge has become so cramped and constricted.
If the lessons were presented using 2D and 3D animation, or if we were doing something which really could not be done on the chalkboard, that would be one thing. But of course, preparing something like that is something which teachers do not know how to do, and even if they did, would take days of programming/drawing/preparation by a whole team of people a week for every hour of instruction.
So what happens is basically, we've just taken a chainsaw to our chalkboards and left only a small piece. And a child's instructional day is just 7 hours of looking at teachers scribbling in the margins of the slides of powerpoint presentations.
