Why Can't These Light Bulbs Ship to California?
- cratermoon 2y agotl;dr: "do NOT meet the Title 20 requirement for a power factor rating of 0.7 or higher". In other words, they are not efficient enough. A cynical reader might conclude the company is grousing about the regulations.
- gus_massa 2y agoI agree. From https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_factor https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_factor > Power-factor correction increases the power factor of a load, improving efficiency for the distribution system to which it is attached. Linear loads with a low power factor (such as induction motors) can be corrected with a passive network of capacitors or inductors. Non-linear loads, such as rectifiers, distort the current drawn from the system. In such cases, active or passive power factor correction may be used to counteract the distortion and raise the power factor. Why can't they just fix it inside the bulb?
- allears 2y agoApparently they have -- the comment above the article says that the new version conforms.
