Trump Backs Elon Musk as Possible TikTok Buyer
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoThis would be a terrible outcome. Elon Musk depends on China granting him market access for selling Tesla cars. If he owns this platform, he will continue whatever practice they have to manipulate recommendations and content to support the CCP’s agenda, so he doesn’t get shut down in China. Musk has also said publicly that he doesn’t support the forced divestiture of TikTok. It would be the same as not passing PAFACA at all.

- maxglute 2y agoPRC would probably be satisified if Musk wants to be TikTok's American 51% JV partner. Hell, they'd welcome Twitter back in PRC if Douyin becomes X's PRC JV partner, but Elon's gonna have to pull strings to get BYD WFOE state side.

- beardyw 2y agoI am part way through "Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light", the second series of Wolf Hall. The behaviour of Trump and his courtiers appears to be consistent with Henry VIII.
- jfengel 2y agoThat... seems like a conflict of interest. I know that there's no such thing as a conflict of interest when it comes to the President, but isn't Musk a government employee now? What kinds of rules would apply?
