This. once stuck outside with limited battery and tried switching to light mode. could instantly reduce brightness and still see everything. the nature of lcd display makes it hard to display contrast without backlighting. but the early ones could be effective by showing dark details on a blank slate. this situation brought back my appreciation for having this mode.
