    Currently, it's mostly to Mexico; and by "transportation", which in "usual" times means busses.

  Deportation takes time. You generally have to be held before you go up in front of a judge. And then countries don't just accept someone that is claimed to be their citizen. They need to run their own validation before accepting the person and often time there's limits on how fast they accept people. So holding folks for weeks or months is common. Plus there will be people who refuse to claim any citizenship and will need to be held until they can find where they go to. Deportation sounds like a simple process but it's often anything but.

    My understanding is that Trump gave himself expedited deportation powers, not really sure how that worked out or if it's accurate. But living in a border state, there is quite a bit of noise about it and how Mexico is rushing to build tent cities for what they expect to be a flood of citizens (or probably more likely, brown people looking like Mexican citizens that Stephen Miller and company has decided is Mexican) being returned to them, quickly and en masses.
