Possible deprecation of WHOIS services after January 28, 2025 for ICANN TLDs

Soooo what about the ubiquitous whois tool? Am I reading this announcement incorrectly that whois will cease to function for ICANN tlds at some point in the near future?

I would guess: not in the near future. But if it's not required by any contract and has no paying customers, a service tends to wither slowly... and die at some point. /usr/bin/whois can use the RDAP protocol of course.

Ah cool, I never looked at the -m option. Thanks!
