Very entertaining! I'm always struck by the sheer serendipity of these stories. It appears that everything after Google was possible because of the safety net created by Google's IPO, and the author's time at Google itself ultimately came about because he and Urs hit it off over Lisp and Smalltalk. What would hace happened if the author had been allergic to dogs and had ended up at JPL because of their Fortran skills?
