Earth's magnetic North Pole is on the move, scientists just updated its position
- 725686 2y agois on the move... approaching the actual geographic pole.
- smegsicle 2y agobut its going too fast!
- triceratops 2y agoWhat happens if they collide at speed?
- barbazoo 2y ago> is on the move... approaching the actual geographic pole. If you're referring true/geographic north, no, it's actually moving farther away from it. > https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/bgsmagneticnorthpole.jpg https://media.cnn.com/api/v1/images/stellar/prod/bgsmagnetic...
- robaxisal 2y agothis is unacceptable, that the pole is moving towards russia it's imperative for america that we control the magnetic pole, and it remains in our continent. Therefore, I'm signing an executive order....
- treetalker 2y agoIt shall henceforth be known as Magnetic America, as opposed to True America, which lies somewhere in the body of water between Florida and the Yucatán peninsula …
- rlpb 2y agoPerhaps speak to the scientists who just updated its position and get them to update its position the other way?
- insane_dreamer 2y agoyou forgot the uppercase
- smartbit 2y agoUpcoming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geomagnetic_reversal ?
- dddw 2y agoThis would have such immense concequences
- dddw 2y agoApparently we are long overdue
- beAbU 2y agoFrom the above linked article: > The duration of a full reversal varies between 2,000 and 12,000 years. So not something that will have an even remote impact on a human timescale.
- vdjskshi 2y agoI wonder how long the transit from 45N to 45S latitudes will be. My gut says the pole will move fastest at the equator (a la the zero crossing of a sine wave). In the not too distant future humanity will see the magnetic pole at the equator. Wow.
- fuzzfactor 2y agoIn other ways the strongest attraction can arise from things are are not "true north" either ;) Plus it can be a moving target too . . .
