I think there has been some sidelining of Vivek from the right-side of American politics for quite some time. For one, although he was the most competent and articulate of the GOP candidates in the primaries but stalled on momentum because he simply did not have the funding engine Trump did, and because frankly I don’t think the GOP voter base is ready for a non-white leader. His recent statements on H1B visas and the weaknesses of the American labor market were taken as anti-American, and I saw many in right-wing social media attacking him for his honest and accurate take in racist ways. The third issue I think he’s run into is that DOGE has two leaders - him and Musk. The two have been conveniently contained into this non-agency, and perhaps Vivek sees it as a clash of two strong personalities or just an organization with limited power. I’m sure a governorship is a better path for his political career, with more likely impact and a more likely way to create/continue his brand.

- wumeow 2y agoI was skeptical that race played a role, but after Musk’s Hitlergruß today, I can see it.
- tayo42 2y agoI don't get why people don't get this. If your not white and male, the republican party doesn't care about you. They actively hate you.
