Cold Reading an ADHD Affliction
- PaulHoule 2y agoAfter 40 years of research and self-discovery I discovered I have this condition https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizotypy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizotypy that affects at least 5% of the population but never gets diagnosed. Three times I followed lines of research that could have led to this conclusion but I missed it. I received several good quality psych evals and looking back I can go over them with a highlighter and see the diagnostic criteria in the first paragraph. There is this construct https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizotypal_personality_disorder https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schizotypal_personality_disord... which I think is just a bit wrong which is one reason I skipped past it many times, I know I could walk in now and get that diagnosis but between being a good amateur psychodiagnostician and a bad actor I think I could get any diagnosis I want. (e.g. on the ADHD screen I just have to say "always" when they ask "how often do you space it?" as opposed to "some of the time") ADHD and high-functioning autism strike me as fads, just like gluten intolerance, I'm sure that a lot of people who feel a bit out of sync with other people have what I've got. ADHD is associated with drug seeking behavior, amphetamines will help anybody sit in a chair, do repetitive tasks, drive for 10 hours at exactly the speed limit. They tried to drug me as a kid and I'm glad they didn't because a friend of mine who was an early adopter lost all his teeth and will suffer from osteoporosis if he lives that long. Autism has a whole "autism industrial complex" that makes it a business that, like ADHD, promotes itself.
