- Yawrehto 2y agoWhy is my brain blanking on all possible puns about TikTok's time running out? Anyway, this feels early. Especially in California; they're banning four and a half hours before they need to, and I assume it's even earlier in Alaska and Hawaii. Even here in the East Coast they banned an hour and a half before it was needed.
- ellisv 2y agoThe US Virgin Islands are an hour ahead of Eastern time.
- colechristensen 2y agoWell you don't want your engineers to be awake doing something at midnight Saturday, and you want some leeway if it doesn't work correctly so you don't have to deal with the consequences of breaking the law. Especially because there's significant pressure from your vendors who don't want to be liable. Killing something only a few hours before it's legally required isn't early.
- sans_souse 2y agoThis feels so gimmicky and political. It's just a platform. It's certainly not the only app on the Play Store that steals user data.
- luckman212 2y agoIs it still called stealing when the users carelessly whack the "allow" buttons and grant permission to the app to siphon up whatever it wants?
- sans_souse 2y agoCountdown til the "SHOW HN: Bypass Tik Tok's newly implemented region lock-out" 12 hrs? I'll probably take the under..
