- WhyNotHugo 2y agoBasically, they rewrote the slow parts in Rust, but that’s only included in the propertary version. The open source one is the one they know has terrible performance. I don’t get why people want to me part of a community where the steward treats them in such a shitty way.
- graemep 2y agoTwo reasons: 1. its preferable to a proprietary alternative. 2. its an open standard so there are alternative implementations 3. Very few people need the high performance alternative. It might not be ideal, but what is the better alternative.
- Arathorn 2y agoWe didn’t rewrite the slow parts in Rust, we rewrote the bits which let large deployments scale (workers) in rust. Normal Synapse perf work will continue as ever, if not faster given it might have more funding. See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42752911 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=42752911
