- ZeroGravitas 2y agoI'd challenge the framing that Trump has ever been anything other than a good thing for China and Xi, on multiple fronts. Letting them take the lead on EV, Solar, batteries, Wind, UHVDC and various other tech to move off fossil fuels. Rejecting the Asia-Pacific trade Deal intended to isolate them. Now China is trying to join it. In terms of trade it's like America leaving NATO and Russia applying to join. Praising Tianiamen Square massacre as "strength". A trade war that China won. A trade deal to end that trade war that China didn't fulfil their side of. Damaging allies' and America's economy with idiotic trade wars. Being a global symbol of America's lack of respect for allies and the dangers of allowing people to vote in democracy. Anti-Muslim rhetoric that undermines attempts to support Ughyrs and expansionist rhetoric that supports their claim on Taiwan. > Washington has typically invited ambassadors and other lower-level dignitaries to such ceremonies but Trump broke with precedent by extending an invitation to Xi this time. Really, who is offering olive branches to whom here?
