For #2, someone once said there are two pricing models (was it Joel Spolsky? Don't recall..):
$0 - $999 - direct sale/download, pricing on website
$50,000+ - full sales team, no pricing on website
And essentially not much in between... this has perhaps changed a bit with SaaS, but this is still semi true.
- egorfine 2y agoOh yes it was Joel Spolsky: https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2005/11/18/price-as-signal/ https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2005/11/18/price-as-signal/
- ChrisMarshallNY 2y agoThat's like a restaurant, with no prices on the menu. "If you have to ask..." I would definitely like to never have to talk to another "people person," and no-calls-but-we'll-give-you-the-info-you-need policy sounds great.
- TeMPOraL 2y agoYou mean a restaurant that gets away with serving mediocre food for ridiculous prices, because the "no prices on the menu" gimmick generates enough status/prestige to compensate for any customer dissatisfaction? I.e. the restaurant equivalent of being famous for being famous.
- ChrisMarshallNY 2y agoWouldn't know. I generally avoid those joints. My tastes are a lot more plebeian. Unfortunately, I have to eat in one, every now and then, but I always walk away disappointed.
- crottypeter 2y agoI think you mean this link: https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2004/12/15/camels-and-rubber-duckies/ https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2004/12/15/camels-and-rubber-...
- egorfine 2y agoIndeed. Given that I am the original russian translator of this article, shame on me for not remembering exactly which article it was.
- zamderax 2y agoI don’t think this is true anymore. Firebase, auth0, AWS, figma and many more SaaS obliterated this dichotomy
