Driving blind: NYC subways steered by 1930s tech, paper maps and a lot of hope
- jauntywundrkind 2y agoDC's Metro (WMATA) has had a bunch of problems, now faces pretty big budget issues. For a couple years there was a ismetroonfire.com website. https://www.reddit.com/r/dcmetrohero/comments/14w2t53/ismetroonfirecom_is_broken/ https://www.reddit.com/r/dcmetrohero/comments/14w2t53/ismetr... But metro really turned things around, has done a ton of track & electrical work. And it's wild to hear what NYC is dealing with! Feeling much better. And sorry for NYC! Ideally we'd be much better at power electronics & have great power semiconductors that could update a lot of this stuff, make it much better. I keep wanting to believe in leapfrog wins, when you wait long enough that upgrading or building is better. Like with cellular, where there have been many late mover advantages.
