This is the problem (from the article):
In addition to Big Tech companies, consulting firms like Cognizant, Tata and Infosys are also among the largest recipients of H-1B visas, providing tech companies with a steady pipeline of highly educated, well-trained employees willing to work on contract.
The workers brought in by Cognizant, Tata and Infosys are actually not highly skilled, and they undercut American workers. Their use of H-1B visas should be limited, and the visas should be reserved for highly paid workers who work for Meta, Google, Microsoft, Amazon and so on.

- agapon 2y agoRad idea: limit H-1B to product companies, exclude consulting / body-shop companies.
- sashank_1509 2y agoYou don’t need to even do that. Just make 150k a minimum salary, (or 200 if you want to be extra safe) and you will get rid of most of these body-shops. And yet, Meta will continue to be > 50% Asian, so will other Big Tech, which is what I think is the real source of all this anxiety. If you want to reverse that, you have to either have a racist immigration policy, or radically reduce the number of H1bs
- breadwinner 2y ago> Just make 150k a minimum salary Then that will be the next complaint... these immigrants are being paid $30k more than me... and I am a citizen!
- bdangubic 2y agoBut H1B exists because no American can fill this position - hence the position by its definition MUST be paid a premium
- breadwinner 2y ago> no American can fill this position Saying that only pisses people off. I have seen this too many times. People who clearly aren't qualified nevertheless want the job because of the higher pay, and pointing out their lack of qualifications only pisses them off more. In their mind the higher paying jobs belong to them because they are white, dammit!
