First Thunderbird then this, what's a native-email-app user to do? I wonder what ever happened to that Letters email app for OS X that people were wanting to build? There was a flurry of activity and complaints about Mail.app and then nothing.

I believe the Letters project died. Sad as I was really looking forward to it.

There is some code for Letters.app is on GitHub, but I don't think it got very far and the last commit was two years ago. https://github.com/ccgus/letters https://github.com/ccgus/letters I remember thinking at the time it sounded quite interesting, so it's a shame. I'm guessing the need for it evaporated with the improvements in Mail.app and the development of other native clients.

  Sadly it only work on OS X and Windows. Anyone knows a good email client for Gnome? Something that does only email.

We're working on Mail Pilot (http://mail-pilot.com/ http://mail-pilot.com/) which will have Mac & iOS apps, among others (Android, Windows, Linux).

Lion’s Mail is the first desktop client that got me back from webmail since April 1st, 2004.

As a reply to my own comment, amazingly on the last Hypercritical podcast (produced on the same day I made that comment, but I had not had a chance to listen to it yet), John Siracusa discussed this very topic. I finally got to listen to it on the way in to work today. I come to the same conclusions and thoughts on stuff as Siracusa so much it's uncanny.
