Trump says he will create 'External Revenue Service' to collect tariff income
- Terr_ 2y agoA desperate attempt to pretend that the money isn't ultimately being taken from Americans. Last time he did this, it was equivalent to a yearly tax of $831 from each US household. - quantified 2y agoHe says lots of things. Let's see. I give 75-25 odds he doesn't.
- Hatrix 2y agoNo-bid contract awarded to one of his friends with no expectations and no audits.
- Terr_ 2y agoIt'll likely be another presidential commission with a deliberately fraudulent name (like DOGE), to create shadow-government positions for apparatchiks of The Party. So this "ERS" will not be part of the government when it comes to oversight, checks and balances, or FOIA... yet somehow you'll have to keep them happy, or else things will happen. I mean, this is a mighty nice company you've got here, it'd be a shame if somehow your primary imported ingredient got tariff'ed...
- quantified 2y agoIf that's so, just another grift to take public money.
- grajaganDev 2y agoJust another big government Republican.
- litoE 2y agoOf course he'll need it. The agency to go after the smugglers.
- jfengel 2y agoDon't we already have an organization that collects tariffs?
- rsynnott 2y agoYes, of course, but Donald's always ready for an extra grift. I'm sure there are a few cronies in desperate need of an appointment who'd be perfect to run it. (Also, presumably fits in with his attempt to convince the more gullible section of the population that tariffs are paid by the country of origin, rather than the importer.)
