I buy almost all tech refurbished / recertified - it's shocking how cheap off-lease equipment goes for on Newegg / Backmarket. Amazon has fantastic warehouse deals sometimes too, you just have to be patient and check occasionally. Especially with desktops, buy everything 'base' 4-8 years out of date, upgrade memory + storage, look for refurb monitor and peripheral deals, etc. Hell, I've gotten completely free shit (expensive stuff!) multiple times from Amazon because of UPS/FedEx screwing up or fudging deliveries! And don't discount Ebay either, sometimes pallets of crap end up on there trying to flog 100+ 'whatevers' at bananas prices, as well as finding weird/rare Chinese replicas of discontinued OEM hardware.
Given how much junk we (over)produce as a species, buying retail for a lot of this stuff just doesn't make sense unless you need it immediately for business or work purposes.
