Out of interest - what do you use the extra slots for? At most I can think of:
- NIC
- GPU
- NVMe
- HBA
- Maybe old protocols like FireWire/SCSI/GPIB
- rkagerer 2y agoYou mainly guessed it. Off the top of my head... second GPU (for additional physical monitor ports, and occasional VM-passthrough), networking (I mentioned Infiniband), Areca RAID controller (6 HDD's, 8 SSD's), USB 3.0 card (mainly just to speed up a Logic Analyzer that was a tad sluggish under motherboard's native USB 2), and a handy-dandy parallel port (legit, not a USB-converted imposter). Once upon a time I had a SCSI card installed as well, for a beloved old scanner (shoutout to VueScan).
