People were always lazy. What changed is being okay with being single compared to dealing with the least effort the other part puts into it (you yourself always put enough effort of course). Call it unrealistic expectations and blame social media or empowerment and celebrate it or whatever. In the end somebody finds a way to feed on the resulting discontent and everybody is worse off as a result.
