- wtcactus 2y agoI’m guessing there were more profitable economic activities there. Gold mining, lumber industry, pelting, etc. Here, in the mountains, there’s basically nothing really profitable. So, husbandry (using goats since they are adapted to this environment) was basically the only way to go.
