Ask HN: Is anyone building their own AR glasses?
I would love to connect with other hackers building their own Frankensteins.
I'm working on making Nreal glasses standalone. It's a sandwich of an RPI Zero 2W alternative, a custom companion PCB, a battery, and a camera. You attach it to the glasses and plug them into it. Since it has a camera you can design any user interface and vision-based applications directly on it.
I'm also requesting a Lumus Z-Lens devkit as it seems to be a game changer.
- nomad-nigiri 2y agoYea!! I was looking at some options in Alibaba. Haven’t found anything good. Anyone root meta glasses yet?
- cactus-tree 2y agoCool! What are you working on? What were you trying to find?
- nomad-nigiri 2y agoIndustrial use case safety googles. Not very exciting.

- cactus-tree 2y agoMy end goal is to make glasses that can do a real-time AI translation, showing up as subtitles under people's faces. So that I can move countries without having to worry about not understanding anybody.
