Parent obviously meant "center" to be the political center of the U.S. given the previous sentence. I'm not sure they're correct in either statement (not having investigated in any way), or that this is a reasonable thing to consider for a global platform (to the extent that Facebook is one). Nonetheless, it's trivially true that somewhere in the US must be to the left of the political center of the U.S.
