Double the bandwidth, double the ram, double the pins, and double the power isn't cheap. I wouldn't be surprised if the profit on the 4090 was less than the 4080, especially since any R&D costs will be spread over significantly less units.
- formerly_proven 2y agoThere have been numerous reports over the years that the 4090 actually outsold the 4080.
- BigJ1211 2y agoThe 4080 was also quite the bad value compared to the much better 4090. That remains to be seen for the 5000 series.
- williamDafoe 2y agoThe 4080 was designed as a strawman card expressly to drive sales towards the 4090. So this is by design.
