Climate Models Can't Explain What's Happening to Earth
- cyanydeez 2y agoRight, just like average wealth makes no sense compared to median wealth. Averages are logistic tools but the actual climate requires extremely small spatial models and uptodate variables. Chaos theory is a existential threat. It will prevent otherwise smart people from accepting real risks and bad choices. So yall can understand. The earth is steve jobs. Climate change is pancreatic cancer and Steve believes fruit smoothies will be efficacious. Steve had already believed in the power pf fruit.
- more_corn 2y agoSensitive dependence on initial conditions. Complex systems defy specific predictive modeling. But the things that climate models can do and have done is show: Climate change is caused by human emissions of greenhouse gasses. It will be bad. We’re reaching several tipping points where runaway reinforcement cycles will accelerate the damage. (Eg, temperature rises in the arctic melt permafrost releasing methane from the resulting boggy ground which is a powerful greenhouse gas, which causes warming which causes more melting GOTO 1)
