Hopefully someday LLMs will be hugely beneficial to society for their ability to identify correlations in data. And, by their very nature, they are good with language and thus helpful in programming contexts. But LLMs have no understanding of what they write. They do not ponder. Are not curious; do not wonder. Do not think or have thoughts. Do not create or invent. Do not have Aha! moments. Maybe some day a machine will be capable of these things. Maybe not. But LLMs - by nature of their algorithmic design - never will.
