I have relatively recently taken steps towards Postgres from it's abiality to be at the center of so much until a project outgrows it. In terms of not getting fired - Postgres is a lot more innovative than most databases, and the insinuation of IBM. By innovative I mean uniquely putting in performance related items for the last 10-20 years.
