Just watched this video and it has so many relatable points in it.
When AI removes the opportunity to connect with people or see other peoples work directly and instead read or consume just generated content seems like a scary sad future.
Just as an example reading an answer from someone in StackOverflow usually comes with the feelings and thoughts about the person who wrote it, why they wrote it, feeling thankful that this one person solved that problem that bothered you. But all of that is going away. I can't upvote their answer, I can't even appreciate them, I won't ever know who supplied that context to AI.
Now you could argue that, with AI, you will never need anyone to tell you anything, because you may never even do anything that needs an answer from someone. I hope that day never comes.
- gexla 2y agoWe're in early days, and maybe this improves in the future. I was playing with Grok today and I like that it shows sources both from X posts and web articles. Grok can only summarize, rather than capture discussions about the subject. I generally use generative AI for summary (like Wikipedia) material. I would certainly follow more in-depth reads the AI surfaces. So, the AI could improve on the search engine experience by providing that summary, as well as doing a better job at surfacing things that aren't junk results. I still like StackOverflow for providing more context around a snippet, but it would be great if the AI could surface the best results there also. I think the UI/UX just needs to improve.
- tim333 2y agoYeah, Perplexity also. Linking sources is probably the way to go, maybe linking people too.
