Any post about productivity, AI, and humans that does not put responsibility at the center is a waste of bandwidth.
Responsibility is the ballgame. Irresponsible productivity is not productivity at all. Irresponsible productivity is how disasters like Bhopal and the 737 Max happened.
Am I being responsible when I trust my Python interpreter? For most purposes, yes. Am I being responsible when I trust any LLM to do anything remotely important? For most purposes, no.
Fanboys make outrageous and untested claims about what AI can do. My productivity hasn’t budged because I am behaving responsibility.

We will therefor not accept a lower standard in order to remove the human operators any time soon. As we've learned with self-driving cars, AI cannot be simply as good as humans, it must be far better in order to replace them.
- satisfice 2y agoThe responsibility angle on the problem of competence is to remind people that the critical difference between an incompetent human and incompetent machine is that a human can be held accountable for his actions, whereas “accountability” has no meaning for a machine. A plane crashed in South Korea, recently. The pilots died in the crash. This is as it should be: the people directly responsible for safety put their own lives on the line. There may be other responsible people, and they must be found and prosecuted.
